Art and Beauty in Fitzroy

Conservatory MelbourneWhen shopping and good food are together in one sentence, it would definitely be worth checking. And this pretty much describes Fitzroy the oldest suburb of Melbourne which happens to be also one of the coolest and most hip. On my second day in Melbourne I was ready to jump in donning my unworn cobalt blue coat and white jeans but my Melburnian friends had something better in mind.

Conservatory Fitzroy
 What to wear in Melbourne
They took us to Conservatory at the Fitzroy Gardens to start the day with beautiful winter blooms in display. It was a pleasant surprise actually as I've never seen these varieties of flowers in one confined place. To be honest, I only go to a flower garden if my mother is with me but boy I was glad I was there as they were in their loveliest state.

 cineraria
The Conservatory has five floral displays over the course of the year and since it was winter it was the time for the cineraria and cyclamens. Fitzroy Gardens is massive, the park itself is covered with trees where I can't see the end of it.

After an easy couple of hours in the gardens we finally went to Brunswick Street where the soul of the city resides. It is the home of the hipster where art, fashion and food can be found in this vibrant Melbourne strip.

What caught our eyes the most was the street art at almost every corner. As soon as we found parking, we got off and settled to snap in the four corners. We thought anywhere in Brunswick is good enough to be captured in cam and we didn't have to find the prettiest art wall.

On one end of Brunswick Street is St. Patrick's Cathedral which is visible in the above street photo. Unfortunately, no shopping and dining was done in Brunswick as we hurried ourselves to proceed to the tallest and largest church building in Australia. St Patrick’s Cathedral is a leading example of Gothic-revival architecture, built from bluestone and sandstone in stages between 1858 and 1940.

As for my outfit, I was glad I was clothed in layers again as it was intensely cold that day. I chose to wear solid colours as they complement each other without contrasting. I was extremely grateful to my tour guide friend Racquel who supplied my MK bag that went perfectly with my outfit. Thanks to her hubby too for the smooth and flawless photographs. More of his work on my coming post.

  5. Mercy, do you know this is my favorite color in fashion? I love this color blue, and you look great in it! The gardens are incredible. Look at all the beautiful flowers! Picture 6 is wonderful and it should be framed! St. Patrick's Cathedral look so old and historic. The girls love to go to mass at the cathedrals when they travel. These are awesome pictures, Mercy. Thanks for sharing them.
